Painted in June at Cloudland on Roan Mountain. Clouds were blowing through all around me. This was in June when the catawba rhododendrons bloom. Painting was a Plein air Finalist in Art Renewal Center's Salon International 2019

The Shelter

This group of fir trees is on the back side of Round Bald on the Appalachian Trail. It's about a mile plus hike up from Carver's Gap, 5900' altitude. Painted in August. Hikers often camp in this group of trees for shelter from the high winds on the Balds

The Climb

Painted in June on the Appalachian Trail. Took a break while hiking up from Carvers Gap on the Trail this past June. Storm clouds were building up, so I painted this quickly to get the feel of the sky and looking upwards on the path I was taking towards the building storms. Then hurriedly hiked back down before the rain.

If I Were a Mountain Lake

This painting started with my attraction to the ferns growing in the rocks outside the kitchen window. Then it needed the daisies. Then it needed water. Next thing I knew I was down at the dock throwing bread to the sunnies so they could join the painting. Somehow or another it turned into a mountain fantasy...

Rich's Deli stands alone on NJ Rt 23 just as you enter Stockholm in Sussex County. It's a great place to grab your hot coffee on the way to the express bus to NYC or your tuna sub on your way to your cabin. The picnic table out front often hosts truckers and of course there's ice and cigarettes for sale.

Just Weeds

Again I have a small desk right up against the lakefront window where I can watch the goings-on at the lake like a hawk. Theres a little 'island' directly in front of me that has one tree and a collection of weeds. The weeds grow and change over the course of the season and the water lake water levels change with rains and droughts. I've become obsessed with painting these weeds.

Last Light on the Lake

A beautiful stillness falls on the lake after the sun disappears behind the mountain. Sometimes I watch a V-shaped ripple come toward the shore - a beaver, snake or mink heading for cover. My favorite to watch of course is the great blue heron but usually he's gone by now...

Gloucester Fishing Village

Quaint inlet with weathered building belonging to a boat dockyard. It's reflection in the water was crisscrossed with a zigzagged, weathered, abandoned dock. So typical of a New England fishing town. The reflection and diagonal lines made an interesting composition for me.
