An exciting display of art is now on exhibit at City Hall in Delray Beach, Florida. The Delray Art League is host to a “plein air” exhibition of paintings by seven of its members. “Plein air” is a term coined by French impressionists in the 19th century which describes paintings done outdoors on site. This style of painting has long been in existence since then but has gained a significant status in the art world in the last twenty years. Art collectors, galleries and artists throughout the world have made plein air painting a very popular form of art and much in demand.

2014 EVERGLADES DAY PAINTOUT

Plein Air Palm Beach was asked by Steve Horowitz, from the Friends of the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge to participate in the Everglades Festival held February 8th, 2014. Twenty-five of our artists showed up to paint and while visitors for the day listened to talks at the pavilion they could see the artists painting the beauty of the refuge.  At the end of the day we gathered in the visitor’s center theater for a meet and greet the artists.
It was great to see all the work produced that day all up on the artists’ easels during the gathering.  While we were chatting with the visitors, the juror for the exhibit, Maxine Schreiber, circulated around and judged the works presented.   When Steve and Maxine presented the awards, Maxine commented that she was impressed by the quality of the artwork.  I have to agree, I am always humbled to have my artwork being displayed along with the truly great artists we have in Plein Air Palm Beach. The Winners were:
1st Place:  Kerry Eriksen for  “Gator” Oil on canvas
2nd Place: Lorrie Turner for Pastel
